Claypool Area, Horwich 1963-1974

The view across the main field near Claypool, towards Elm grove where I used to live.
The church was built in the early 70s, the house appeare much later. When I first moved to Horwich all this was fields and woods.
The wooded area near the 'field. We used to play in here, climbing the trees and building dens etc.
This is included simply because the tree in the middle with a branch that sticks out to the right has actually survived from the 70s and I used to climb/fall out of the damn thing!
The field hasn't changed much either except that we didn't get proper goal posts when we attempted to play football. Jumpers and bricks had to suffice. The annual bonfire was usually on here just below where the red car is standing.
The view across the field towards the Reebok Stadium.
This house was the abode of my mate Simon Callaghan, on Claypool Road. The current owner has made up for the lack of a drive by simply driving his car into the garden through the fence. You can see the rear of the car near the street light.
This field was the scene of many 'dangerous' activities as it had a hill. We used to grab any suitable piece of junk (Plastic etc) and slide down at high speed. There was a 'ditch' halway down so you tended to take off. The houses on the right were the 'posh' people. In the distance is a small farm which provided horses for several people we knew to ride, including twin girls (Whose names escape me) andone horse was called Prince.
This was built in the late 60s and started life as a library which I used extensively, contributing to my love of books. Since then it has declined and changed function several times. The last time I was there they were going to demolish it.
This is a view looking towards our house (No. 4) on Elm Grove. The grass to the right was an open bit where we often played, much to the annoyance of Mr Dance who lived at No. 8. He'd be really pleased because they now have a big sign in the middle of it saying 'No Ball Games Allowed'.
The view down Elm Grove looking towards the Reebok Stadium in the distance. Our house was number 4, which is the one with the 'porch'. I used to climb up on the porch and into my bedroom window...... not something I could even attempt now!
Looking down Claypool Road.
Looking along Poplar Avenue from Claypool Road.
This swampy field was exactly the same in the 70s, they obviously can't be bothered to drain it and build houses.
This bit is looking from Claypool Road towards where the local pond used to be. In the 70s this was waste ground and fields.
Admittedly not Claypool, this is Alexander Road near the Beehive pub. The building on the corner used to be Streets Post Office.
Looking along Chorley New Road towards the Beehive pub (cream coloured building on right). Behind the trees on the left used to be J.W.Roberts where my dad worked, it became Ingersoll Rand and is now part of a Business Park.
The garage near the Beehive pub. Last time I was there it was closed.
