This site has changed over the last 15 years.... originally being just my attempt to keep the memory of a great old school alive.
Other people have begun to contribute.....
Thanks to Keith Yates, Karen Yates and Dave Horsley,
but it really needs more people to send us information, pictures etc.
| The normal view of the front entrance. |
| The view from in front of the school towards the Chapel. |
| Looking towards the rear of the front part of the school past the Gym.. |
| The Gym in all its 'glory!'. |
| The block where the 'cooking stuff' went on, and loonies were known to jump from the upper floor windows on to the grass bank below. |
| Similar to above, but further back, looking along the rear of the main building. |
| Looking from where the 'old Biology Lab' was towards the rear of the main building near to where the previous 2 shots were taken. |
| Same position as previous shot but this time looking towards the 'toilets' and upper floor Biology room. |
| Looking along the side of the main building where we used to have a 'volleyball' court. Also, where the bicycle sheds used to be! |
| Bottom of the old yard, with what I seem to remember was a sort of sixth form common room on the left. The room to the right used to be a French room (Fred Topping etc.) |
| The new block that has replaced where the music rooms etc. used to be. |
| Another view (Side on) of the building from photograph 09, above. The window on the lower left was a sixth form classroom and the centre one was a staff room of sorts. I recollect someone tying the door handle of this room to the one opposite, trapping several staff in the room one lunchtime! |
| As above but lower down, looking along the front of the school. |
| Looking towards the main sports field, long jump just visible in foreground. |
| Lastly, the site of the old dining room, ie. the old wartime wooden hut seemingly reclaimed from a German prisoner of war camp. Obviously not good enough for the modern generations! |
| Now a cafe, gift shop. The Rivington Information Centre is located in the cottages to the left of this picture. Run several days a week by Susan Wilkinson, an ex-RBGS pupil from around the same time as me, but a year (or Two?) lower down the school. |
| Not often seen as the only visits normally to this region were evening ones to dos at the Upper Barn. |
| The location of several 'parties' during my time at Rivington. This picture shows the start of a sort of Antiques Fair. |
| I have to admit that in all the time I was at Rivington I never ventured far enough along the roads near the school to see the Reservoir. It is actually a very pleasant area, especially in the sunlight, so these shots don't really do it justice. |
