The Rod Webb 2010 Christmas Message
Hello everyone,
This is my first contribution to the L.H. website - Reader becomes Author!
(Dave Ireland has done a wonderful job getting this site up and running - Well Done!)
Holiday season always puts me in mind of all the "absent friends" in the UK. I miss you all! Luckily a few ex-Lyddon people, accompanied by families, have looked me up when they pass through this area (Colorado) on holiday or family visits. Shelley Charik, Richard Gross (not accompanied by families yet), Phil Brown, John Allen (just last summer), Richard Cowan, John Wolff, Martyn Cusworth, Tony Waton, Steve Brown, Dave Hammond, Mike Russell, and many more. Most recently, I had a brief meeting with Amir Haidri as he was passing through the Denver airport en route to a conference.
As for me, I can't believe I've been here since 1992! You won't be surprised to learn that I spend most of my time hiking, reading and traveling. I am the moderator of four book clubs, three of whom hired me to keep their dicussions on track, and the fourth is a Great Books discussion group at a local college. This last group is a lot of fun- rather like teaching again. All the groups read good literature, and, better yet, they pay me!
The biggest event for me in the last nine years was meeting Sandra, to whom I am now engaged! (no date set). We really have a wonderful time travelling (especially to New Mexico), going to theatres and concerts, and hiking in the Rockies. She has enjoyed meeting all the English friends. perhaps if I become computer-savvy enough, I will attempt to post a picture of us on this site.
Financial constraints prevent me from sending Christmas cards to as many of you as I would like, but please know that I am thinking of you all at this Christmas season. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, and a healthy and prosperous (despite the economy) 2011.
I wish I were there just now to go on some rambles in the snow. It is absolutely dry here, and unseasonably warm.
Regards, Rod
